GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Working Supervisor that directs the day-to-day maintenance and repair of ranch facilities and grounds. Supervise ranch maintenance staff, prioritize and assign duties as required. This position interfaces regularly with personnel in Veterinary Technology, Agriculture Sciences, and Continuing Education Equine programs. Receives immediate supervision from the Associate Director, Physical Plant and exercises some supervision.
NOTE: This is a security sensitive position, and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Experience: More than one year of experience in grounds or ranch maintenance.
Special Requirement: Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must be insurable and maintain insurability under the College’s automobile insurance policy.
Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid USDA Herbicide Applicators License within first 6 months of employment.
Experience: Some basic welding experience.
Knowledge of: 1. Farm and ranch operations. 2. Operation and repair of farm-related equipment. 3. Basic computer skills. 4. Proper use of herbicides and pesticides. 5. Welding, with emphasis on fence construction, both welded pipe and barbed wire. Skills in: 6. Basic metalworking and welding. 7. Basic electric, plumbing, and carpentry Ability to: 8. Manage multiple projects simultaneously, and effectively handle schedule changes due to unforeseen issues. 9. Effectively supervise ranch personnel, communicating instructions and job responsibilities clearly. 10. Create an atmosphere of teamwork by including Ranch Staff in planning and decision-making processes. 11. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. 12. Effectively communicate bot orally and in writing. 13. Repair or construct new fencing and/or livestock shelters. 14. Safely operate farm-related equipment. 15. Interact safely with ranch livestock.
Exertive-Significant exertion on a daily basis. Awkward positions and sustained activities require strength. Frequent moderate lifting is required. Continual Exposure for Recurring Risk-At least half of each week requires exposure to sensory extremes. Several times weekly there may be exposure to chance of injury or loss of life, requiring additional safety precautions.
