GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Provides leadership in the administration, planning, implementation and evaluation of student counseling services. Provides and oversees mental health counseling for MCC and University Center students. Serves as liaison to C.A.R.E. Team and provides training as requested. This position receives general direction from the Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Chief of Staff and exercises some supervision.
NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a counseling related field.
Experience: More than 3 years of professional experience working with college students in a counseling, advising, coaching, or related field.
Special Requirements: Currently licensed by the State of Texas as a professional counselor (LPC).
Experience: Direct professional experience in a college/university clinical setting.
Knowledge of: 1. Stressors affecting college students and counseling techniques to address these stressors. 2. Appropriate procedures to follow for students exhibiting a danger to themselves or others. 3. Principles of management theory. 4. HIPAA and FERPA laws. 5. Titanium and other software. 6. Effective public relations, and principles of marketing strategies. Skills in: 7. Supervising, training, and evaluating personnel. 8. Acquiring, compiling, and maintaining clinical records using the Titanium system, as well as other technology and databases. 9. Organization and prioritization. 10. Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to: 11. Apply effective counseling techniques for a wide range of mental health issues. 12. Interact with potentially suicidal or homicidal students to maintain individual and campus safety. 13. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. 14. Interpret and apply college policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
Sedentary – Desk work; occasional field trips e.g. for college or program activities. Insignificant effort other than normal movement. Minimal Hazard/Exposure – Standard office setting. At least minimal environmental controls are in place to assure health and comfort.
